Following the consultations we will be reviewing the scheme designs and exploring alternative options. More information, along with the consultation reports are available from the scheme webpages (links below).
The findings from the second round of consultation for the Canterbury scheme were discussed at the Environment and Transport Cabinet Committee on the 18 January 2022. Following the meeting a decision was taken by the Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport to proceed to the detailed design and then construction. A third round of consultation on the detailed design will run from the 9 September to 6 October 2022.
The government have created an Active Travel Fund to enable councils to provide improved walking and cycling facilities. We submitted a bid and have been successful in securing funding for five schemes.
Earlier this year we sought your views on our initial ideas for these schemes, which seek to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of local people, as well as support the local economy.
The feedback has helped create the more specific proposals shown in this consultation. The results of the previous consultation are available in the consultation report.
We are now seeking further views on the outline designs for four of the schemes:
Canterbury: Littlebourne Road to the City Centre
Folkestone: Central Station to Cheriton
Thanet: Birchington to Margate
Gravesham: Gravesend to Northfleet
We want to continue to understand and incorporate the views of the local community, stakeholders and the travelling public in our proposals. Your feedback will be vital in helping us shape how the schemes are progressed.

The fifth scheme, a cycle route from Hythe to Dymchurch, received a high level of support in the first consultation. It does not require any further detailed design so will go ahead as previously proposed.
