Various Roads, Herne in the District of Canterbury - Amendment 7: Speed Limit Order

The effect of this made Order will be to implement various speed limits on the following length of roads in Lower Herne, Canterbury:

  • Furrows Drive - (1) proposed 40mph speed limit from the Eddington southern roundabout at the junction with the Canterbury Road for a distance of 150 metres in a southerly direction (2) proposed 30mph speed limit 150 metres from the Eddington southern roundabout at the junction with Canterbury Road for a distance of 20 metres in a southerly direction.
  • Slip Road to A299 Southbound Carriageway - (1) proposed 40mph speed limit from its junction with Furrows Drive for a distance of 50 metres in a north westerly direction (2) proposed 70mph speed limit 50 metres from its junction with Furrows Drive to continue onto A299 southbound carriageway (3) pedestrian Prohibition order 10 meters from its junction with Furrows Drive for a distance of 50 meters in a north westerly direction.

This order has been made for the following reasons:

  • for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians)
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs.

  • Slip Road to A299 Southbound Carriageway - (1) proposed 40mph speed limit from its junction with Furrows Drive for a distance of 50 metres in a north westerly direction (2) proposed 70mph speed limit 50 metres from its junction with Furrows Drive to continue onto A299 southbound carriageway (3) pedestrian Prohibition order 10 meters from its junction with Furrows Drive for a distance of 50 meters in a north westerly direction.

This order has been made for the following reasons:

    Following the statutory consultation period, the scheme has been reviewed and the decision has been taken to make this Order permanent.

    Anyone may, by application to the High Court by Monday 14 July 2025, challenge the validity of the Orders or of any provision contained in them on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or any instrument made thereunder, or that there has been a failure to comply with any statutory requirement to the Orders.
