St Stephen's Hill, Canterbury - Junction Improvement Scheme

Photo showing the St Stephen's Hill and Downs Road junction with a bus travelling along St Stephen's Hill.

We are considering changes to St Stephen’s Hill between its junctions with Downs Road and Hackington Close.

The junction has been identified as a location where improvements could help buses travel more safely and reliably, while also making it easier and safer for people to cross the road.

We are proposing to:
  • replace the existing give-way junction with a mini roundabout
  • reposition the pedestrian crossing and traffic-calming chicane on Downs Road
  • realign part of the kerb to make right turns into Downs Road safer
  • add a new pedestrian crossing on St Stephen’s Hill.
Please read the consultation document for more information about why we are considering these changes, their expected benefits and possible effects. You can also view the scheme plan.
