St Lukes Close, Whitstable - Enforcing moving traffic offences

Update: December 2024

Thank you to everyone who took part in this consultation. The Consultation Report is now available in the Documents section on this page.

A decision has now been made to progress with the installation of the ANPR cameras. The next step will be to advertise a new Traffic Regulation Order and we expect this to be advertised in the next few months. This would be followed by the installation of the ANPR cameras with enforcement starting soon after.

Kent County Council (KCC) are using new powers, approved by parliament in July 2022, to improve safety and tackle congestion by enforcing moving traffic contraventions.

We are proposing to install moving traffic enforcement cameras at a new bus gate between St Lukes Close and Britten Gardens in Whitstable. At other locations in the county similar bus gates in residential areas have been abused by drivers in unauthorised vehicles, leading to bus operators withdrawing their services.

The aim of the enforcement is to increase public transport reliability.
