Update May 2026

On 18 November 2025, the Children, Young People and Education Cabinet Committee discussed plans to review Specialist Resourced Provision (SRP). After this, the Cabinet Member for Education and Skills agreed to delegate authority to the Corporate Director for Children, Young People and Education to carry out all necessary discussions, consultations, and contracts relating to proposals to increase SRP places.

The Corporate Director for Children, Young People and Education has reviewed the responses to this consultation, has agreed that a Public Notice should be issued.

The Public Notice is being published in the Kent Messenger on 14 May 2026 and is available to view in the Documents section on this webpage, together with the complete proposal.

The Public Notice will run for four weeks, during which time, any person may send in a response supporting, objecting to or commenting on the proposal.

We would like to hear your views on a proposal to open a 20 place Specialist Resource Provision for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or speech, language and communication needs from September 2026 at St. Edmund’s Church of England Primary School.

We have completed an Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) to see if the proposal could affect anyone unfairly. We welcome your views on the assumptions we have made and the conclusions we have drawn. The EqIA is available from the Documents section on this webpage.
