Libraries are Vital for the Community

Kent Libraries are a lifeline for every generation within a community. Although Kent Libraries have made it possible to access many facilities online, which again is a lifeline for those in the community who have disabilities and are unable to get to a Library, the rest of us still need a safe space to go.

Children should have real books to read not e-books, especially younger children and they love their trips to the Library. The older generation have a place to go for help that is within walking distance, many are unable, or do not have the facilities to operate a computer. Events for the older generation is very important as many live alone and they can meet up for a coffee morning, knit or play Scrabble.

Although many of us have a computer or use mobile phones, not all of us have printing, scanning and photocopying facilities which many make use of in the Library, we do not want to travel to a main town or photocopying shop.

The loss of the Library during “lockdown” has proved to me that all our local Libraries are such an important part of our communities, we can walk to them which is better for our health and the environment.

Libraries must be kept open for everyone.
