School Streets - Snodland C of E Primary School
We are excited to inform you about an upcoming School Streets trial, which we will be introducing in April 2026. This initiative aims to create a safer, healthier, and happier environment for everyone.
What is the School Streets Trial?
The trial involves temporarily restricting motor vehicle access near the main entrance of Snodland C of E Primary School during drop-off and pick-up times.
The trial will run from 27 April to 26 October 2026, with restrictions in place between 8.00am to 9.00am, and 2.30pm - 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, during school term time only.
Residents accessing their homes, Care Home staff and emergency services will still be able to travel in and out of the trial area during the restricted times.
Shortly you will be able to apply for an exemption permit which will allow you to enter and park within the School Streets area during the restricted times. We will send further information to residents and businesses within the zone on how to apply for a permit before the end of March, ahead of the Easter holidays.
When the trial launches, a six-month consultation period will also start. Whilst the trial is in place, everyone will be encouraged to provide feedback about their experiences of the School Streets.
Throughout the trial, we will work closely with Snodland C of E Primary School to understand its impact – not just within the School Streets zone, but also in surrounding roads – by monitoring safety outside the school entrance, air quality, and traffic flow.
Your feedback will play a crucial role in evaluating its success. Following the consultation and trial period a decision will be made about the future of the School Streets.
Why are we doing this?
The main aims of the trial are to:
- improve road safety for children and families
- reduce traffic congestion and pollution
- encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling (active travel) to school
- create a calmer and more pleasant environment outside the school.
Which area will become the School Streets zone?
The trial will run along Roberts Road, starting just before the junction with Godden Road on Roberts Road. It will run past the school's main entrance and Care Home until the end of the road. The trial will also include the junction of Godden Road.
How can you get involved?
We value feedback on the trial and encourage you to participate in the consultation when the trial launches.
Parents, carers, local residents and businesses will receive further communication from the school and KCC closer to the launch date.
In the meantime, you can complete our short survey to share your initial thoughts about the upcoming trial. The survey closes on 15 March 2026.
If you have any questions about the School Streets trial, or need a paper copy of the survey, please get in touch using the contact details in the 'Who's listening' section, providing the reference 'School Streets - Snodland C of E Primary School'.
We will also be available in the vicinity of the school on Monday 30 March, between 2.15pm and 3.15pm, if you want to come and talk to us in person about School Streets trial.
