Kent School Funding Formula 2025-26

Table with 4 books, an apple, colouring pencils and ABC wooden blocks

The School Funding consultation proposes a number of changes to our Local Funding Formula (LFF) which is used to calculate your annual primary and secondary school budget.

A school budget is calculated based on key characteristics of a school and its pupil cohort.

It is the Government’s intention to use a single National Funding Formula (NFF) to calculate school budgets by 2027-28 and Local Authorities will be required to set their Local Funding Formula under increasingly strict conditions to ensure a smooth transition. In 2023-24, Kent updated its LFF and is now considered to be mirroring all NFF factor rates in line with the DfE definition (where the LFF rates are within 2.5% of the NFF rate). For the 2025-26 budget, it is still the responsibility of the Local Authority to set the formula used to determine the school budgets in Kent, which will continue to mirror the NFF.

All maintained schools, academies and free schools in the area of Kent County Council are encouraged to respond to this consultation.

Responses will be shared with the Schools’ Funding Forum at their meeting on 10 January 2025. The Forum will be asked to make recommendations to the Cabinet Member for Education and Skills who ultimately takes the decision(s) involving any changes to the Local Funding Formula.

Please read the information in the Documents section and then complete the online questionnaire to share your views by midday on Friday 20 December.

A school-specific model has been provided separately to this consultation document to illustrate the changes of our proposals.
