Update 12 October 2022

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this consultation.

The consultation report is now available in the Documents section. The report will be discussed at the Thanet Joint Transportation Board on the 15 October 2022.

We are proposing to introduce traffic calming measures on Northdown Road in Cliftonville, Margate, to reduce the number of personal injuries occurring, particularly to pedestrians, through road traffic collisions.

Traffic Regulation Order (TRO)

The scheme includes changes to waiting restrictions, which require a TRO.

The effect of this proposed Order would be to amend or introduce new double yellow lines at any times on the following lengths of roads in Thanet:

  • Clifton Road
  • Edgar Road
  • Northdown Road
  • St Paul's Road
  • Wilderness Hill

This Order is being made for the following reasons:

  • for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.
  • for facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians).
  • for preventing damage to the road or to any building on or near the road.
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs.

The scheme will be reviewed so that the Council can make the decision to make the Order permanent, amend or abandon it.

Full details, including the scheme plan, can be found in the Public Notice and Statement of Reason document.

Any person wishing to object or support the Order before it is made permanent can do so via our response form.

Wider traffic calming scheme

We would also like to give you the opportunity to provide feedback on the rest of the proposed scheme.

The Consultation Document and Scheme Plans for the whole scheme can also be found in the 'Consultation Documents' section.

Feedback on the wider scheme can also be made via our response form.

What happens after the consultation?

The feedback from this consultation will be reported to the Thanet Joint Transportation Board (JTB). If the decision is taken to proceed, the TRO for the waiting restrictions will be advertised as a ‘Made Order’. This will be publicised via a notice in the local newspaper and this webpage will be updated to reflect this.
