High Street, Maidstone in the Borough of Maidstone - Amendment 5: Prohibition of Traffic Movements

The effect of this proposed Order would be to introduce a Pedestrian and Cycle Zone No Motor Vehicles except for Buses and Taxis on the following lengths of road in Maidstone:-

  • High Street – On the south side from its junction with Pudding Lane to its junction with Wyke Manor Road for vehicles travelling in a westerly direction.

The effect of the Order would be to introduce a Pedestrian and Cycle Zone No Motor Vehicles except for Disabled Badge Holders, Buses, Taxis and for Loading by HGVs between 5.30pm and 10.30am on the following lengths of road in Maidstone:-

  • High Street – On the north side from its junction with Wyke Manor Road for a distance of 276 metres in a south westerly direction for vehicles travelling in an north easterly direction.
  • Pudding Lane – On both sides from its junction with High Street for a distance of 38 metres in a north westerly direction.

The effect of this proposed Order would be to place an at any time Bus and Taxi Lane on the following length of road in Maidstone:-

  • King Street - On the south side its junction with Wyke Manor Road for a distance of 25 metres in a westerly direction.

This order is proposed for the following reasons:

  • for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs
  • for facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians).

The scheme will be reviewed so that the Council can make the decision to make the Order permanent, amend or abandon it.
