Grove Ferry Hill and Road, Upstreet in the District of Canterbury - Amendment 5: Traffic Movements

The effect of this made Order will be to change the weight limit from 18t to 7.5t on Grove Ferry Hill and Grove Ferry Road in Upstreet, Canterbury – prohibit vehicles of more than 7.5t from crossing the bridge in both directions.

This order has been made for the following reasons:

  • for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road of for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs
  • for any of the purposes specified in Paragraphs (a) to (c) of subsection (1) of section 87 of the Environment Act 1995 (air quality).

    Following the statutory consultation period, the scheme has been reviewed and the decision has been taken to make this Order permanent.

    Anyone may, by application to the High Court by 15 December 2025, challenge the validity of the Orders or of any provision contained in them on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or any instrument made thereunder, or that there has been a failure to comply with any statutory requirement to the Orders.
