Various roads, Canterbury - Electric Scooter Trial

Consultation has concluded

The effect of this made Order will be to make the Electric Scooter Trail Experimental Order permanent across various roads in Canterbury.

This order has been made for the following reasons:

  • to broaden the range of sustainable transport modes available to the public.
  • to reduce private car dependency by offering an accessible alternative sustainable travel mode.
  • to establish the impact of E-scooters, including their impact on safety (perceived and actual), mode shift, public attitudes, the economy and the historic urban realm to inform local policy and to share with the Department for Transport.

The Order came into effect on the 30 October 2020 on an experimental basis for a period of eighteen months and is now being made permanent as from 11 May 2022. Following the statutory consultation period, the scheme has been reviewed and the decision has been taken to make this Order permanent.

Anyone may, by application to the High Court by 20 June 2022, challenge the validity of the Orders or of any provision contained in them on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or any instrument made thereunder, or that there has been a failure to comply with any statutory requirement to the Orders.
