Various Roads in the District of Canterbury - Amendment 2: Speed limit order

The effect of this made Order will be to reduce the 30mph speed limit to 20mph on the following length of roads in Canterbury:

  • Abbey Gardens, Beaconsfield Road, Bramshaw Road, Brockenhurst Close, Cadnam Close, Charollais Close, Damerham Close, Dextor Close, Durnford Close, Forty Acres Road, Leycroft Close, Long Acre Close, Lyndhurst Close, Market Way, Monks Close, Pine Tree Avenue, Ringwood Close, Salisbury Road, Shaftesbury Road, St Michael's Road, St Stephen's Close, St Stephen's Court, St Stephen's Green, Stephenson Road, St Stephen's Road, Verwood Close – for their entire length.
  • St Stephen's Hill – from its junction with St Stephen’s Green for distance of 45 meters in a Northerly direction.

This order has been made for the following reasons:

  • for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for facilitating the passage of the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians)
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs.

    Following the statutory consultation period, the scheme has been reviewed and the decision has been taken to make this Order permanent.

    Anyone may, by application to the High Court by Monday 7 July 2025, challenge the validity of the Orders or of any provision contained in them on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or any instrument made thereunder, or that there has been a failure to comply with any statutory requirement to the Orders.
