The School Funding consultation proposes changes to our Local Funding Formula (LFF) which is used to calculate your annual school budget.
A school budget is calculated based on key characteristics of a school and its pupil cohort.
It is the Government’s intention to use a single National Funding Formula (NFF) to calculate school budgets by 2027-28 and Local Authorities will be required to set their Local Funding Formula under increasingly strict conditions to ensure a smooth transition. For the 2026-27 budget, it is still the responsibility of the Local Authority to set the formula used to determine the school budgets in Kent.
All maintained schools, academies and free schools in the area of Kent County Council are encouraged to respond to this consultation.
Responses will be shared with the Schools’ Funding Forum at their meeting on 21 November 2025. The Forum will be asked to make recommendations to the Cabinet Member for Education who ultimately takes the decision(s) involving any changes to the Local Funding Formula.
