Kent County Council in partnership with Meadowfield Special School and Sunny Bank Primary School is proposing to establish a satellite provision of Meadowfield Special School at Sunny Bank Primary School for 16 primary aged pupils. This proposal will provide students with opportunities for integration at a mainstream provision and will provide additional opportunities and choice for Meadowfield pupils.

We are also proposing to increase the designated number of Meadowfield Special School from 348 to 366.

Meadowfield (Foundation) Special School is a day provision providing for boys and girls aged 3 to 19 with Profound, Severe and Complex Needs (PSCN) including Autism. In addition to the main building at Swanstree Avenue Sittingbourne, the school also operates a 6th form provision at Ufton Lane Sittingbourne. The new satellite at Sunny Bank Primary School will provide additional opportunities and choice for integration for Meadowfield pupils.

The County Council is the strategic commissioner of education provision in Kent and has a duty to ensure that sufficient school places are available to meet demand. This duty applies to special school provision, as well as mainstream settings. The Commissioning Plan for Education Provision in Kent 2022-26 sets out our commissioning intentions and is revised annually.
