London Road, Dunkirk in Swale - Amendment 7: Speed Limit Order

Made Order

This effect of this Made Order will be to reduce the national speed limit on London Road (Canterbury Road) in Dunkirk, Swale:- (1) from existing 30mph limit place a 40mph limit from the western boundary of 33 Woodside for a distance of 684 metres in an easterly direction (2) from a point 70 metres east from eastern boundary of Prospect Cottage place a 40mph limit for a distance of 828 metres in an easterly direction (3) extend the current 30mph from a point 13 metres east of the eastern boundary of Prospect Cottage to point 34 metres south on the A2 slip road.

This order has been made for the following reasons:

  • to avoid the danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs.



Second consultation

The effect of this proposed Order would be to reduce the current speed limit to 30mph on London Road (Canterbury Road) in Dunkirk, Swale from its eastern boundary of Prospect Cottage for a distance of 110 metres in easterly then southerly direction towards the A2 slip road.

Please note, we are consulting on this extension to the speed limit which will be added to the original proposal (Amendment 7, as below).

This order is being made for the following reasons:

  • to avoid the danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs.

  • from existing 30mph limit at the eastern boundary of 34 Woodside for 650 meters in an easterly direction
  • from existing 30mph limit 18 meters from eastern boundary of Prospect Cottage for 840 meters in an easterly direction.

This order is being made for the following reasons:

  • to avoid the danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs.

    Following the statutory consultation period, the scheme has been reviewed and the decision has been taken to make this Order permanent.

    Anyone may, by application to the High Court by 24 February 2025, challenge the validity of the Orders or of any provision contained in them on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or any instrument made thereunder, or that there has been a failure to comply with any statutory requirement to the Orders.
