Consultation has concluded

Following the end of the Public Notice period and endorsement by KCC’s Children’s, Young People and Education Cabinet Committee, the Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Shellina Prendergast has confirmed the decision to:

  • open a satellite provision for 6 Year R/Key Stage 1 primary aged pupils at Garlinge Primary School and Nursery
  • open a satellite provision for 12 Key Stage 4 students and 12 Post -16 students at EKC Group (Broadstairs College)
  • increase the designated number from 200 to 230

There now follows a four week period during which time the Canterbury Church of England Diocese or the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark may appeal to the Schools Adjudicator against the decision.

  • April 2022 - Public Notice

    Kent County Council proposed to make the following changes to Foreland Fields Special School:

    • Open a satellite provision for 12 Key Stage 4 students and 12 Post -16 students at EKC Group (Broadstairs College)
    • Increase the designated number from 200 to 230

    Details of the proposal were reported to and endorsed by the Children, Young People and Education Cabinet Committee on 1 March 2022.

    Shellina Prendergast, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, having considered the recommendation from Cabinet Committee and all the responses to the consultation, has agreed that a public notice should be issued.

    The public notice is being published in a local edition of the Kent Messenger on 20 April 2022 and is available to view in the document section, together with the complete proposal.

    The public notice will run for four weeks, during which time, any person may send in a response supporting, objecting or commenting on the proposal.

    This proposal will provide students with opportunities for integration at a mainstream provision and will provide additional opportunities and choice for Foreland Fields pupils.

    The County Council is the strategic commissioner of education provision in Kent and has a duty to ensure that sufficient school places are available to meet demand. The Commissioning Plan for Education Provision in Kent 2021-25 sets out our commissioning intentions and is revised annually.
