Chilmington Green Road etc, Great Chart in the Borough of Ashford - Amendment 3: Speed Limit

The effect of this made Order will be to reduce the existing speed limits on the following length of roads in Great Chart, Chilmington, Ashford:-

  • Ashford Road – change the existing 50mph speed limit to 40mph from a point 25 metres north of its junction with Old Surrenden Manor Road to a point 60 metres south of its junction with Chilmington Green Road
  • Chilmington Green Road – change from National speed limit to 40mph from its junction with Ashford Road to its junction with Tally Ho Road
  • Sandy Lane – change the existing 50mph speed limit to 40mph from its junction with Ashford Road for a distance of 30 metres in a north westerly direction
  • Un-named Road - place a 20mph from its junction with Ashford Road to its junction with Chilmington Green Road.

This order was originally proposed as Amendment 22 but due to the recent consolidation order it has been re-named as above.

This order has been made for the following reasons:

  • for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising
  • for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs
  • for facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians).

    Following the statutory consultation period, the scheme has been reviewed and the decision has been taken to make this Order permanent.

    Anyone may, by application to the High Court by 15 December 2025, challenge the validity of the Orders or of any provision contained in them on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or any instrument made thereunder, or that there has been a failure to comply with any statutory requirement to the Orders.
