Bridleway EE451 at Ripple and Sutton - Definitive Map Modification Order 2020

Consultation has concluded

We have received an application to amend the legal record of Public Rights of Way, known as the Definitive Map, by upgrading Public Footpath EE451 (also known as Hangman's Lane) at Ripple to Bridleway status.

Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the County Council may make an Order to modify the Definitive Map where it is considered that a public right of way ought to be shown at a different status.

In this case, a Definitive Map Modification Order has been made to upgrade the route subject to the application to Bridleway status. Following advertisement of the Order, several objections have been received and therefore, as required, the matter has been referred to the Planning Inspectorate for determination.

Normally, documents relating to the submission and any subsequent correspondence would be available for public inspection at the County Council's offices but, given the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19, they will appear on this webpage instead.

UPDATE: This Order has now been confirmed and has taken legal effect.

A copy of the Order (as confirmed), and the Planning Inspectorate's Decision Notice, is available to view in the Documents section.

Please be aware that works will be required on the ground before the way is capable of being used by equestrians and cyclists, and therefore it may not be available for use as a Bridleway immediately.
