The Trust submitted a business case to the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) seeking approval from the Secretary of State and this was approved by the Secretary of State.
A report was submitted to the Children and Young People’s Cabinet Committee where the proposal and the outcome of the consultation was considered. This was supported by the Cabinet Committee and Shellina Prendergast, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills.
All comments and views from the consultation were considered by the Governors of Borden Grammar School Academy Trust, and it was decided to proceed with the proposal.

The County Council’s Commissioning Plan for Education Provision in Kent 2021-25 is a five-year rolling plan which is updated annually. It sets out our future plans as Strategic Commissioner of Education Provision across all types and phases of education in Kent. The plan can be viewed on Kent.gov.
It is anticipated that there will be short and medium-term pressure for additional Year 7 grammar school places in the Sittingbourne and Sheppey Selective Planning Group which indicates that additional capacity will be needed for 2022 and in later years.
Therefore, KCC has asked Borden Grammar School to provide additional places for local students by expanding the school by 1FE (30 places) from a PAN of 120 to 150 from 2022.
